before and after

What connection can do?

Remember when I said that rehabilitating a horse isn’t about what you do, but how you do it? These are two examples of horses that weren’t “trained” in the traditional sense, but instead, we focused on building a connection through a state of being. One of the horses was far too old and in too much physical pain to train. He had been neglected for years, left in a pasture with little to no care. His hooves were overgrown, his teeth were in terrible condition, and he was very underweight. Yet, through the power of simply being with him, we were able to rehabilitate him. The other horse had been abused at a young age and had lost all sense of connection. Even during the most basic groundwork, he would panic. But through this same approach—using the power of being—we were able to work with him at liberty without first having to train him. We never taught him to walk or trot beside us; it wasn’t an exercise but rather the result of the connection we built.
